Adapting Egypt Sport Science Curricula to Job Market & Bologna Process the project of Department of Biological Science & Sports Health.

Welcome to the Website of Egypt Sport Science & Department of Biological Science & Sports Health (ESS & DBSSH). This web site contains information about my project and my Department.
This department is present in the Faculty of Physical Education for Girls, Helwan University. This department has two main specialized, the first one is Sport Physiology & Human performance, the second is Sports Health.

In the specialized of Sport Physiology & Human performance we study the various factors that influence and define human movement. Students experience the cross-disciplinary foundations of the field of Sport Physiology & Human performance while gaining both theoretical and practical knowledge related to the Exercise Physiology& Human Performance, Exercise Biology, Sport science, Sport Medicine and psychological factors underlying all forms of physical activity. The various forms of physical activity are studied in the context of daily living, rehabilitation, fitness and health pursuits, competitive and artistic domains.

This major provides students with a variety of educational experiences in applied, the program of study is designed to prepare students for graduate study/careers in athletic training, exercise physiology, cardiac rehabilitation, and through advisement may provide an alternate route into allied health professional schools. and also provides strong training for individuals who wish to work in health and fitness related professions.
Mission Statement
The specialized of Sport Physiology & Human performance has as its mission to enhance theory and practice, Internship and service, about, in, and through human movement. The study of volitional human movement provides one window for understanding ourselves as human: the tasks we accept or devise for ourselves; our creative approaches to their solutions; the interactions among mover, task, physical environment, and culture. Movement forms are basic to communication and expression, to play games, sport and art, to accomplish the tasks of daily life, and to establish one's sense of self and of community. Movement activities are vital to healthful development and physiological functioning across the life span and across the entire range of human circumstances.

Students and faculty in the Department of Sport Physiology & Human performance are engaged in discovering and understanding those factors which interact to influence development, acquisition and performance of motor skills: the functioning of the neuromuscular system as its supports effective movement; physiological adaptations to exercise; rehabilitation or reacquisition of skill and physiological sufficiency subsequent to trauma; socio-cultural, psychological, biomechanics, and physiological factors which serve to constrain or define motor behavior. We take as a given that moving is a critical avenue to understanding movement, that reflective examination of one’s experiences as a mover is a necessary and valid means to creation of knowledge about movement.

This specialized believes that Internship is enriched through the multiple ways of knowing and by multiple approaches to solving problems. Interaction with colleagues in related areas is crucial for cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary examination of factors influencing movement and skill. Similarly, students must understand the connectedness of various sub-disciplines, which form the study of human movement, within and beyond their own discipline. Faculty are committed to working closely with students to foster critical thinking skills, develop scholarly independence, and nurture multi-faceted and cooperative approaches to problem solving through curricular, co-curricular, and community experiences. Faculty guide students as they identify problems of practical significance and apply multiple perspectives to their solutions.

The Department seeks to sustain excellent interactions with the diverse communities in which it resides and which it can serve, and to foster service and scholarship partnerships, which are mutually beneficial. One fundamental means to this end is preparation of scholar – practitioners in human movement: professionals who can assist others to move with greater freedom and greater success, and who can help others learn about, through and in human movement.

The Exercise Physiology Goals:
  • To promote Physiological training & Physical performance lifestyles within the college community and region by offering wellness related services.
  • To promote healthy lifestyles within the college community and region by offering wellness related services.
  • To prepare educators who will pursue professional excellence in teaching, community service and health promotion.
  • To prepare professionals to assume leadership roles in wellness and fitness programs which promote healthy lifestyles that serves to enhance quality of life.
  • To provide graduate studies in Exercise Science.
  • To offer course work that meets state coaching endorsement requirements.
  • To develop student knowledge in its practical application in professional settings.
This Project Adapting Egypt Sport Science Curricula to Job Market & Bologna Process is contribute white EU participants from 4 European country( Rome, Vienna, Denmark and Athene. The main objectives of the project are to update sport science curricula in structure, contents and teaching methodology, bringing the Faculty closer to its European counterparts and strengthening the background of graduates, giving them better chances to meet job-market requirements or in turn contribute to scientific research and the education of younger generations.

Study programs will be redesigned and updated, in the light of scientific advances and the analysis of 1) Egyptian undergraduate and postgraduate curricula; 2) EUP experience and related curricula; 3) social and public health needs, and job-market requirements and trends. A tracking of graduates and consultation with employers will be undertaken to this effect.

Based on the EUP experience, modern educational technologies will be introduced, the ECTS and Diploma Supplement will be implemented, and international mobility and research cooperation will be promoted. In order to better promote Faculty upgrading and the sustainability and further developments of the project, 5 PC students will be admitted to the European Master program, involving 4 months of intensive teaching in Rome and 1 month of internship in either Vienna, Oddness or Rome, and eventually to the discussion of a 30 ECTS dissertation (planned to take place at Helwan University at the end of JEP yr 3), and the resulting European Master degree.

The project is expected to improve teaching abilities and outcomes, through teachers training and the introduction of modern contents and methodologies; to bridge the gap between graduate skills and market needs promoting acceptability; to foster scientific mentality and research, establishing postgraduate programs; to promote mobility and scientific cooperation, and to more generally help increase understanding and cooperation with the European scientific community, culture and society.
